How PAYE is Calculated in Guyana (2026)
Step 1: Determine Personal Allowance (Tax Free Amount)
Every employee is entitled to a personal allowance – this portion
of income stays tax-free (based, the system calculates the greater
of):
— GY$1,560,000 per year (GY$130,000 per month), or
— One-third (1/3) of gross income
Example: If you earn GY$300,000/month (GY$3,600,000/year), your personal allowance would be GY$1,560,000, which is greater than GY$1,200,000 (=GY$3,600,000 ÷ 3), therefore, which is three times (GY$130,000/month).
Step 2: Deduct NIS Contributions
