Customer Needs

The Major requirement for the implementation of a GBV easy communication platform is to remove the stigma surrounding GBV and the fear of communicating instances of being at risk of GBV or being subjected to GBV can be reduced. This platform will be centred strictly around strengthened GBV easy communication, to support GBV survivors and persons at risk to GBV access to relevant GBV information.

Initial State

Initially, the customer worked with a team of 3rd party developers to set up the mobile app. They faced a lot of issues with the design of the UI & Data management as it wasn’t intuitive to use and the information in the app was stored offline within the app which meant any new information added should be rolled out as an app update.

Our Solution

We’ve worked with our UI/UX designer to get the required designs that satisfy our client and started setting up an admin panel with a custom database where users with access can update information directly through Moss App and it will reflect in the mobile app instantaneously without any app updates required. We used Flutter to develop the mobile application for both iOS and Android and published it to the stores.

Development & Adoption Plan

Software requirements specifications

The first task the team performed was to get software requirements specifications from the customer that they did with the original developer and obtain the source code. We’ve reviewed the documentation and the source code and mapped out all the changes required for the application.

UI/UX design

We’ve coordinated with our UI/UX designer to obtain the requirements of the design which took over a month to complete. Meanwhile, we figured it’s best to migrate the whole project to Flutter which provides better functionality and performance.

Mobile Application

Once we received all designs for the application. We’ve started setting up the Database & Admin panel first so that any user with access to the panel can add, update and delete the information available on the mobile application.

After the initial setup of the admin panel was completed. Work on the mobile application started and we’ve ramped up the development process to complete the project.

We had multiple reviews of the application with the customer and updated the app according to their requirements. Finally, we’ve pushed the mobile app to both iOS and Android stores in Nov 2021 as it was the deadline mentioned for us to push the app.

We’re still working with the customer to update any further requirements they need in future.

Outcome

  1. After restoring everything to working order we had a very satisfied client and a better working relationship.
  2. Gained a better understanding of the camera layout/placement and the issue at hand for future reference.
